Message from ACCE: We stand in solidarity with our DACAmented sisters and brothers today, and we will continue to stand with them whenever they come under attack.
The threatened repeal of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is yet another attack on communities of color by a white supremacist White House.
Almost 800,000 Dreamers have received work permits and deportation relief through DACA, allowing these young people to live more freely and fully. They’ve pursued higher education, worked as nurses and teachers, bought houses and cars, and built lives outside of the shadows.
If Trump repeals DACA, it will be to pander to his xenophobic white-supremacist base. It is an attempt to intimidate not only immigrant communities, but all communities of color, and those standing in solidarity with them. The threat against DACA is part of this administration’s overall agenda to undermine healthcare and public education, civil rights laws and criminal justice reform, workers’ rights and voter engagement, affordable housing and environmental protections.
We will all be affected by the repeal of DACA – not only DACAmented youth and their families, but every community that they’re part of – workplaces that have hired talented young immigrants and college campuses where DACAmented youth are making vital contributions to social, cultural, and academic life. In other words, repealing DACA will affect the fabric of our entire society, and will mean this nation turning its back on its own dignity and humanity.
An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us.
