Tenants Fighting $1000+ Rent Increases Launch Signature Gathering Kickoff to Support Affordable Housing Act, to Remove State Barriers to Local Rent Control
OAKLAND, March 10th, 2018 - This Saturday, tenants denied renter protections due to the Costa Hawkins Rental Housing Act that are facing rent increases over $1000 a month will launch a local signature gathering kickoff in support of the Affordable Housing Act. In less than two months since signature gatherers hit the ground to place the Affordable Housing Act on the ballot, the campaign has already collected over 50% of the signatures required. Representatives from SEIU Local 1021, Centro Legale, East Bay Democratic Socialists of America and Community Resource Corps, Oakland Justice Coalition and Oakland Educators Association will be joining the initiative.

With less than two months since signature gathering started, the campaign to repeal Costa Hawkins has already collected over 250,000 signatures.
