Stop Realtors From Displacing Us!

Since 2013, the California Association of Realtors (CAR) has led on the spending of more than $11 Million to influence State housing policy.

CAR has become one of the State’s biggest lobbying groups, spending tens of millions of dollars every year to influence state and local politics so they can direct housing policy for their own gain. In 2014 and 2015, they led on efforts to kill the Ellis Act Reform statewide that would have protected renters from speculators.

We all know that California needs more affordable housing.  We also know that building million dollar condominiums that only the rich can afford is NOT the solution. But that is what is getting built across the state.

Why? Because that is what the apartment and real estate industry want.

We, the undersigned, call on the California Association of Realtors to stop lobbying against low-to-moderate income homeowners and tenants in the State Capitol and our local City Halls.  Instead of profits for the few and driving up our cost of living, we call on you to support investments in the kinds of affordable housing preservation and construction our diverse communities desperately need!

We also call on our elected officials to refuse and return any contributions from the Realtors Association this election cycle and to commit to affordable housing preservation, real tenant protections, and affordable housing construction for our diverse communities.

It is outrageous that Mary Jung, the lobbyist for the Realtors Association is the head of the DCCC here in San Francisco. That is a grotesque conflict of interest and she should be removed from her position as head of the DCCC, and removed from the DCCC entirely.

Enough is Enough. We are taking our cities back from the exploitation and forcing residence out to accommodate the wealthy outsiders and others who come in and take jobs that should go to local residents. This is gentrification of San Francisco and Oakland.

San Francisco has to reach a limit on accommodating population growth, and ensure housing for working folk, not the newly ultra-rich, if its unique neighborhood character has any chance of surviving.
