Worker Justice

Posted on Campaigns by Claire Haas · June 29, 2015 12:35 PM

With racial and economic justice at the heart of everything we do, fighting for workers rights, especially low wage workers - who are disproportionately workers of color, is a recurring issue area for ACCE members. From winning policies to increase the minimum wage to mandating that employers practice fair scheduling and establish enforcement of “wage theft” protections ACCE has a rich history of fighting and winning workers’ rights.

The rise of automation, an exploding gig-economy, and increasing instant-delivery warehouses are fundamentally altering the economic landscape and eroding basic scheduling reliability practices and benefits for low-wage workers. It is critical for  workers and policy advocates to come together to discuss the realities of today’s environment and collectively come up with solutions that will maintain their right to collectively bargain, allow for access to strong health and retirement benefits, provide a living wage, and guarantee fair schedules that allow workers to have a balanced home and work life. That is why ACCE Action continues to talk to our members about their working conditions while we also stay engaged in big idea policy conversations around Universal Basic Income (UBI), a Federal Job Guarantee, Baby Bonds and more. So that when workers are developing solutions with us, we can bring what we know about innovative policy solutions being put forth and allow workers to shape those ideas.
