→ The race for Vista Mayor is an important, high-stakes, Democrat vs Republican match-up that could determine whether the city takes a progressive step forward. Cipriano Vargas, the Democrat candidate in the race endorsed by labor and community groups, is a trusted ACCE ally. As the president of the Vista School Board, a staff member in Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer’s office, and a former organizer with SEIU 221, Cipriano holds credibility for working hard on behalf of community. In particular, Cipriano worked with ACCE on budget advocacy as part of the Invest in San Diego Families coalition, and was a key partner working in support of the immigrant legal defense fund. In the face of a current Republican majority on the council, Cipriano—with his experience and integrity—is well positioned to lead the city towards a better chapter.
